Recognizing the Significance: While it's not obligatory to include a package in LaunchMyStore, it's strongly advised to prevent possible complications concerning weight discrepancies with courier partners or LaunchMyStore Delivery.
It's crucial to grasp the disparity between Shipment weight and Product weight.
Product weight: This refers to the actual weight of your item.
Shipment weight: This reflects the volumetric weight of your entire shipment, considering multiple products within a single order.
Example Scenario:
Let's say you're selling T-shirts on LaunchMyStore. A customer places an order for one black and one white T-shirt, each weighing 300 grams. As there are two items in the order, the total product weight amounts to 600 grams. To ensure accurate representation, you need to allocate a suitable package for shipping based on your box sizes. The system will then automatically compute the volumetric weight of the package.
Volumetric Weight Calculation:
Different courier companies calculate volumetric weight using varied methods, even with the same box size of 30x30x30 cm.
UPS: 5.4 kg
FedEx: 5.4 kg
DHL Express: 5.4 kg
DPD: 5.4 kg
BlueDart Air: 6.75 kg
The formula for volumetric weight calculation is 30x30x30 divided by the denominator, where BlueDart uses 4000 as the denominator, while others use 5000.
Delivery fee calculation:
When determining delivery fees, LaunchMyStore considers both the actual weight of the products and their volumetric weight.
If the volumetric weight of a package exceeds the actual weight of the products contained within it, LaunchMyStore will bill based on the higher volumetric weight. For example, if you ship two items weighing a total of 600 grams, but the volumetric weight calculated for the package is 6.75 kg, you will be charged according to the higher volumetric weight.
Conversely, if the actual weight of the products exceeds the volumetric weight of the package, LaunchMyStore will bill based on the higher product weight. For instance, if each product weighs 5 kg, totaling 10 kg, and the volumetric weight of the package is 6.75 kg, you will be billed based on the higher product weight of 10 kg rather than the volumetric weight.
Avoiding Weight Discrepancies:
Failure to include appropriate packaging details may result in unforeseen expenses.
For instance, if you indicate a product weight of 300 grams for a T-shirt but utilize an undisclosed large package, you'll initially only be charged for the 300 grams.
However, upon arrival at delivery company warehouses, they assess the volumetric weight against the declared package and product weight.
This examination may lead to a dispute over weight differences, resulting in additional charges in your LaunchMyStore Delivery, Shiprocket, and Courier Partner accounts.
In summary, incorporating packages on LaunchMyStore greatly enhances precise weight calculations, minimizes the chances of chargebacks, and streamlines the shipping process efficiently. Be proactive in configuring packages within your LaunchMyStore settings to boost your e-commerce operations' effectiveness.
